BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend is happening in Exeter, Devon this year and the lineup is exciting, as always. On the second day of the festival, East Ayrshire rock band Biffy Clyro will be taking on the “In New Music We Trust” stage. Over the course of the weekend, some other performers that will be on that stage are Panic! At the Disco, Fetty Wap, CHVRCHES, and twenty one pilots.
The band that was formed in 1995 has a big year ahead of them. On July 8, they are releasing their seventh studio album, Ellipsis. Along with the album release, the band has an action-packed summer filled with shows happening all over the world. Some of those exciting events include headlining festivals like the Open Air Gampel in Switzerland and they’ll also be performing in South Korea for the first time ever. Biffy Clyro are also performing at Bellahouston Park on August 27, supported by US band Fall Out Boy.
In an interview with DIY Magazine, frontman Simon Neil said that this album is extremely important to the band. They changed some of the ways they went about making it, which made it feel like a clean slate. Neil said that the album is much different from previous Biffy Clyro albums, but they are remarkably proud of it and cannot wait until June so the fans can hear it.
The new album’s first single, ‘Wolves of Winter’, is a bit heavier than their past singles. The song was debuted on Beats 1 on March 21, 2016, along with the announcement of the new album. The track leaves a promise of an exciting live performance, which gives fans something to look forward to at Big Weekend. The band has released three other tracks from Ellipsis: ‘Animal Style’, ‘Re-Arrange’ and ‘Medicine’. On April 28, 2016, ‘Animal Style’ was given the prestigious Hottest Record by BBC Radio 1 DJ, Annie Mac.
